This is a self-paced, 16 week Online EMS Instructor Course, designed for the entry level EMS Instructor interested in teaching EMS Continuing Education or Initial Education. This is a State of Missouri approved course  based on the DOT/NHTSA 2002 National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors. This course meets the Missouri Health and Human Services, Bureau of EMS requirements for EMS instructors.

Students will have a maximum of 16 weeks to complete all of the modules of this Online EMS Instructor course. Students will learn how to create effective quizzes, and testing material, informative presentations and teaching skills for today’s adult learners. Students will be required to demonstrate satisfactory performance on all assignments, final project, and final exam. NO EXTENSIONS WILL BE GIVEN, NO EXCEPTIONS.

*** State of Missouri approved 40-Hour EMS Instructor Course ***
The goals of the course include:
  • To assist participants in achieving entry-level instructional skills based on the DOT/NHTSA 2002 Guidelines for Educating the EMS Instructor.
  • To provide tools and resources to participants who want to instruct the EMS curriculum.
  • To provide foundational information in the basic instructional process.
  • To provide opportunities for networking and interpersonal growth.
Course Length

16 Weeks; no extensions will be given, no exceptions.

Course Completion

  • Students should progress by completing required assignments and quizzes to finish all aspects of the course within 16 weeks.
  • Course completion will not be earned unless the student completes the Final Project and Final Written Exam.
Final Written Exam
  • 50 questions, multiple choice exam based on content tested in module quizzes
Final Project

Prepare and deliver a 50 minute  presentation for an EMT class. Topic will be assigned for the presentation. Students will prepare and submit the following:

  • lesson plan
  • 50-minute presentation
  • 10-question quiz based on your lecture/presentation
  • 500-750 word critique of their presentation based on feedback from the class and Instructor and their own critique.
Course Location:

Final Presentation and Written Exam at Respond Right EMS Academy.

Course Prerequisites

Participants in the EMS Instructor program must be licensed EMTs, AEMTs, or Paramedics. Must also be an instructor in at least one of the following disciplines: BLS, ACLS, PALS, PHTLS, or ITLS. Registered nurses and physicians with at least two years of clinical experience may also apply.
